What we carry:
We carry many items for model railroading from sets, locomotives, rolling stock, scenery, track, etc., etc. Our in-store inventory is huge. In fact it is so large we can’t list it all here. So to help you locate what you are looking for we have everything placed in categories according to gauge/scale.
- A Note About Gauge/Scale:
- Gauge/Scale is the size of the train, buildings, and items that relate to it in scale. Available gauges are:
- G Gauge or Garden Railroad gauge is the largest
- O is smaller than G
- S is smaller than O
- HO is smaller than S and half the size of O gauge
- N is smaller than HO
- Z is the smallest.
- The two most popular gauges are O gauge (Lionel trains) and HO gauge (Hot Wheels cars are a good size reference for HO). HO gauge has the greatest amount of product available for the lowest amount of money.
- Getting Started: Train Sets Are Ideal:
- If you are looking to get started in this interesting hobby, we have a category just for train sets, which are a great value. Sets include track, transformer, locomotive, rolling stock, and can include a few scenery items.
- They are a great value for starting because you get everything that you need to begin for one price and in one box. And if you like, you can add additional track, locomotive, rolling stock, and scenery to expand your set at any time.
- Train sets are listed in the category titled Train Sets and include G Gauge, the largest gauge to Z Gauge, the smallest gauge.

- When you click on the link that you would like to view, you will be taken to our off-site warehouse, what we call our Hobby Shop Now. Our warehouse is open to you 24 hours, 7 days a week.
- When you find your item in our warehouse you have several buying/delivery options available Online Shopping or Store Order and Pick up. With these options, buying from Al’s Hobby Shop is easy and convenient. Here’s how it works:

- You can use the online shopping cart, pay for your item, and have it shipped directly to your location. You’re done. You don’t have to do anything else.

- Store Order And Pickup:
- You can call us at our store at 630-832-4908 and place your order. Let us know that you found this item in our Hobby Shop Now Warehouse. We will have your item shipped to our store. When your item arrives we’ll call you and let you know that your item has arrived and it’s ready for pickup. You can then come to our store, pay for your item and take it home.
- And Of Course Shopping At Our Store:
- We encourage you to stop by our store in Elmhurst, IL and visit. We have more product for you to see, and many distributor contacts that allow us to find those “hard to find items” that may not be listed in our Hobby Shop Now warehouse.
