This flying boat developed by Claude Dornier in 1926 was, at its later maiden flight in October 1929, the largest aircraft of its time. Propelled by 12 engines it could carry 150 regular passengers. On 2.11.1930 the DO X left Friedrichshafen on an Atlantic crossing, but then had to stop at the Canary Islands for repairs and finally reached New York after a 10-month delay.
